Finally some rain

Last night we finally got some rain. Not much but a little. We are getting a little right now also and it looks like maybe a good storm later today also. I was glad to see that the sprinklers never came on from the looks of it this morning. Tried turning them on again before I left and nothing. Seems to be working great. Now to see how long it dissabled them.

Hunter Rain sensor installed

It took me about 2 hours but it is installed and tested. Putting the sensor on the outside of the house and getting the wire into the garage took about 10 minutes. Trying to fish the wire down the wall so it was hidden and out of site was the big problem. It was very hot and the fish tape was giving me a problem. Plus it is close to impossible to make fish tape go in the wall through a small hole about the size of a dime and come out another hole about the size of a dime. Finally was able to get it but I am glad I am not an electrician and have to do this on a daily basis. At anyrate it is installed and working. Now to just tweak it for it’s sensitivity. The one I bought will turn the system off within 2 minutes of the rainfall. Then you have to adjust it for the amount of time you want it to dissable the system. Right now I have it set kind of high. The first time it rains I will find out how well it works. Good thing it was only 29 bucks shipped. Didn’t waste to much if it doesn’t work the best.

Slow week

Nothing happening really this week. A few new things at work but nothing around the household.

Not to much new going on

Just trying to keep up with everything. Man has it been hot lately. Have had to water the yard pretty much everyday for the last week or so. That means I am mowing the yard twice a week also. It is looking pretty good this year though. Have not gotten back down to the basement or garage to get ready to sand all the joints. It is so nice out that it is hard to go down in the basement to work. I do need to get back on that project. A new toy I bought is the Hauppauge 500mce card. I am working on getting a linux box together (suse 9.2) with mythtv. Learning as I go so I will post my config and my process when I get it how I want it.

Two zones almost the way I want them

A few days ago I found out that Menards is carrying rainbird sprinkler heads now. I had bought cheap spray heads for two zones on the side of my house. These heads get plugged up easily and are hard to adjust and keep clear. They are about the same size as the rainbird heads I bought so very easy to replace. I had 3 of the large hunter heads on one of the zones also. I have replace all heads in one zone (6 heads). Have adjusted that zone and think it is pretty much dialed in. I will check it again just to make sure I am not watering the house or anything like that. I have replace 2 of the old pop up spray heads on the other zone and then replace 3 of the hunter heads on that zone also. I have one connection I just capped off so I will have to dig that one up and find the connection to put the last rainbird head. I have run out of the new heads, only bought 11, ended up needing the 12th one, so I will go get 2 more, keep one as a replacement just in case. I hope to be able to get around to putting the last one in by this weekend. My left hand is almost back to normal but my right hand I have two blisters on it. Man my fingers hurt right now. The heads I am putting in are the RainBird 1800 series. I like how easy they are to adjust. I can adjust from now spray to 360 degrees of spray. I can also adjust from roughly 15 feet to about 8 feet it looks like. You can really crank these down so you do not over water if you do not want to. Puts up a much more even spray than the others I have tried also. Nice thing is that they only cost 3.89 for the professional fully adjustable model at Menards. Not much more than the cheap ones I just replace made by orbit.

What is up this week

Jenny and I finally found a nice patio set we liked. Found it on sale at meijer so we picked the set up this weekend. Took about an hour to unbox and put it together. I am very happy with it. We sat out late last night just relaxing. I was playing with the dog and jenny was working on a few things for work. I picked up a few replacement spray heads for the side yard. I am not happy with the setup I have on the small side of the yard. I plan to replace a few heads and try to get this area to be a little bit better. have a few dry spots that might form eventually. Will flush both zones out and install some new heads. Hope to work on that a bit tonight.

Great weekend

Kind of glad it is over. Then again, I had so much more I wanted to do. Was able to do a few things I wanted to finish up on. Atually relaxed for a bit also. Saw a few movies. Did not rent the sander like I wanted to. I have a few more areas to get cleaned up and move a few things around and then I believe I will be ready to rent it. Just did not want to get it to early. Might be able to get most of the mud up this week. I hope I do not need to buy another bucket of mud but only time will tell. I move a bunch of stuff around and cleaned up the main room. I only have one partial bucket of general purpose mud left (will use that for the ceiling texture). I have less than half a bucket of light weight mud left also. Need to use that for any touch up. I may go get a small bucket or maybe a bag of light weight. I also heard about mud called medium weight. May look into trying that also. Other than that, just cleaning around the house and relaxing, nothing else is really new.

Getting Closer

Well I hope to have all of the taping ready to go for this weekend. I hope to finish up the utility room and garage so I can send all at same time this weekend. I posted my plan on the blog here. Went through another bucket of mud last night. Didn’t have very much left in it but it is all gone now. I have 5 empty buckets in the basement right now. Need to clean them up and store or throw them away. I only have one bucket of mud left now. I have a full light weight bucket. Hopefully tonight I will be able to finish up the garage and maybe mow also. I have two long seams on the ceiling in the garage and all the screw holes in the ceiling to get finialized and then I have about 4 seams on the walls to finish and touch up the corners and I have to start one outside corner. Hope I can get that up and get at least the first coat on it tonight. Will be close but still shooting for have all mud on the walls for this weekend. Then I will just have touch up in all areas. Utility room and garage I am not worried about getting perfect but rest of basement I plan to have to touch things up at least 2 more times before it is finished.

One more bucket of mud has been emptied

Last night I headed down to the basement to do some more taping. I had about half a bucket of the lightweight mud left. I started in the utility room. Put in 3 corner pieces and taped all seams. The only area I did not do is under the stair way. I have one seem there and one corner. Did not feel like emptying that area yet. I want to clean up the room before I take all that stuff out. I put the first coat on all areas except that area. If times permits I hope to put a second coat on most areas of the utility room tonight and maybe put a coat on the garage also. Since I will be renting a sanding device for the main room I am trying to finish all the taping and mudding I can so I can take advantage of the sander on all rooms at the same time. I still have a full bucket of the lightweight mud and about half a bucket of the topper mud and about half a bucket of the general purpose mud. I plan to just use the topper and lightweight as I need it and save the general purpose mud for the texture coat on the ceiling. Hopefully the mud I have left will be enough to finish all areas. I was amazed at how much I used in the utility room already. I figure that the last bucket of lightweight mud will be gone by the time I finish the utility room and garage.
