I had bought a 50 piece 1/2 inch router bit set about 4 months ago. Did not have a router at the time but was planning on purchasing one. For my birthday my wife bought me a new hitachi router. It does not fit on my table saw/router from sears. I will have to figure out a mounting method. Anyway. I needed to route out a small groove in the main 2×6 support structure in the basement. I had an electrical wire that I had to go around the corner and decided to run it through a small groove to get there. Worked out very nicely. Set the depth for just a bit more than a wire and away I went. Wire fit in perfectly and drywall went over it without a problem. Man does that router have some power.
Used my new router for the first time last night

Was able to get the remaining drywall down to the basement last night
Brought all the drywall down and put them in the rooms they will be used in. I have a little cleaning up to do in the utility room before I can put the rest up. I have finished wall wall to the left as you enter the utility room. I plan to clean up the floor there (used to be where the fish tank was) and then put the outlet back in and move the freezer over to that spot. I then will finish up the prep work on the small wall where I might put a fish tank eventually and it will be ready for drywall. I plan to continue my way around that room. I need to move a few things so I can get back behind the furnace and need to figure out what I am going to do will all of the wires near the utility box also. I want to clean up the coax cables and try to mount them nicely. I also want to clean up the phone cables and punch down all of the connection from up stairs also. Moving all of the cables around and cleaning them up could easily take me a good 2 to 4 hours probably. I want to go up and change the jacks upstairs at the same time so I have 2 cat 5 connections in each jack upstairs. I can run either data or phone to each of them. I want to label them at the same time I get them organized and punched down. I hope to run phone and data to each jack upstairs so I can just plug a phone in or plug a patch cable into the network port at anytime and will get signal. I need to think about what I will be doing in that utility panel area because I am limited to how long the cables are from the main level(they cut the coax and the cat5 cables pretty short, they are up at the ceiling almost). I do not want to put the switch way up there. I hope to mount it next to the electrical panel so it is out of the way. I believe I can make it look nice and have it out of the way at the same time. I plan to put shelves around that area eventually and just use it for storage. I have a 4 foot rack in the corner that I believe I will keep there and it will house all of my network equipment and at least one if not two servers. At anyrate, I am making progress again. I think I will go get two more 60 pound buckets of mudding compound today. I think I am going to go ahead and mud the basement myself to save some money.

Fish Tank is down and empty
Well I finally did it. I took the fish tank apart. I had not really spent much time on the 55 gallon micro reef since I moved into the new house. I should have never moved it. Oh well. I finally spent the time to take it apart and am throwing most of the stuff away. So if you or someone else wants a 55 gallon tank and stand and custom sump, just email me. I will be throwing most of the stuff out in the spring of 05 when we have large garbage pickup. I still have a 30 gallon and a bunch of the lighting stuff and another sump and skimmer all ready to go. Who knows, in another few years I may start a smaller tank up. The 55 was just a little to big for me. To much to keep it as nice as I wanted to and to much money to run. I had a huge pump that was getting old and taking a bit of electricity I am sure. So I just have to empty the last of the sand out and move the tank out of the way so I can finish the drywall in the basement. The room will look so much nicer when I can move a few things around and finish up the drywall. Will bring a bit more light to the room and it will look a bit cleaner also. Hopefully will get most of that accomplished this week.

Over the weekend I went and picked up the last of the drywall, I hope
Saturday afternoon a friend and myself rented the menards truck and picked up a few more sheets of drywall. I needed 2 more sheets of green board to finish the bathroom and I needed 2 more sheets of 5/8ths to finish the ceiling in the main room. I picked up 11 more sheets of 1/2 inch for the walls in the utility room. I am ready to put up the sheets in the utility room. I may run one or two coax runs really quick to the utility room wall so I can put a TV on that wall if I wanted to. maybe one in the utility room and 2 or maybe even 3 on the back wall of the main room. Just in case I do end up putting a bar in that corner someday. I may just put them in the wall and not terminate them as of yet. Then I can just dig them out of the wall if I wanted a jack there one day. Put up the last sheet of drywall I had in the basement. Shawn will be stopping by on monday to help me bring the rest of the drywall to the basement. Will stack all of the 1/2 inch near the door to the main room and the two ceiling sheets over by the bathroom and the 2 sheets of green board in the bathroom. Will have plenty of work for me to do this week.

Worked on the trim abit more last night
Wow, primer can sure smell up the whole house. I think I might have primed a bit to much last night. Could smell the paint upstairs after a bit. Think the difference was I stated earlier last night and the furnace was on more than the previous night. The furnace helped to move that smell around the house a bit more. Could still smell a little this morning still. I know not to do that again. the good news is that I have the big window almost ready to install. All of them are primed. I just have to sand a little bit to clean up a few spots and then prime those spots again and I can then install all of the pieces.

Started trimming out the big window in the basement last night
It is going to take me a while to finish trimming out the windows down stairs since this is the first time I have ever done anything like this. Man is it nice having a great blade on my table saw. I ripped down the pine to the size I needed and since the wall is not perfectly level I could not use the fence for 2 of the boards. Still but great but had to cut it free hand. Filled in some blemishes last night and put a coat of primer on one of the boards to see how it looked. I plan on finishing up the sanding and what not tonight on all 4 pieces for the big window and get the first coat of primer on all sides of the pieces. I hope to get them all dry fitted and maybe even get them permanently mounted if all goes well. I will not put the trim around the edges of the window these boards are just to fill the space from the window to the edge of the drywall, I will then put trim around the window to finish it off. Will put pictures up as soon as I get that far. I still have to have all of the areas mudded first. I hope I can start to cut and finish up the other two window areas while I am waiting for paint or wood filler to dry on the current pieces.

Have not worked on the basement for a few weeks now
Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I will be able to get back to the basement. I would like to get some of the trim around the windows completed this week. Would like to get the trim up and insullation all set so I can see how much condensation will be accumulated around the windows. I have all of the trim wood I need to build the window areas. I will need to sand the wood and fill in some inperfections and then prime the wood before I put it up. Hopefully I have enough primer in spray cans to finish what I need. Maybe I will go get a few more cans just in case. Hopefully I can finish at least the large window this week. If all goes as planned I will be renting the menards truck again and picking up the rest of the drywall I need to finish up the bathroom, ceiling and utility room areas. I may go ahead and at the same time pick up most of the wood trim so I can get that all ready to go after the mudder is finished.

Water in bedroom ceiling again
Well we got back from a long weekend away from the house and I noticed a bubble in the bedroom ceiling. I poked at it and sure enough it was full of water. I drained it and let it dry out. Went up into the attack last night and looked around and found no leak in the roof or around the furnace vent pipe. I have no idea. Only thing I can think if is I needed to put some more insulation in that area so I did. It might have been a bit thin on insulation right in that area because that is where we had a leak last year. The insulation had been moved around and was not at tall at the other areas. So I put some of the extra insulation I had in the basement down and put a few sheets of it across the top also. Hopefully that will help me show where if any water is leaking through the roof. Hopefully it was just because there was not very good insulation in that area and it was just making some of the cool air condense and water was pooling up.

It’s been over a week now and no leaks
I have been checking the new pipes I put in down stairs and have seen no water at all. I do have a small problem with the shower head leaking when I run the shower but that is because I have not screwed the shower head in all the way. I will have to remove it again to paint and probably for the mudding guy. Since I have seen no leaks I went ahead and finished up the insulation on that wall. Had to go get one more roll of insulation to finish up the last bit. Have some extra now but that is OK. Now I am pretty much at a stand still. I can finish up the trim around the windows and need to finish up two doors but after that I need to get out and get some drywall and trim for the baseboards and doors and windows. I believe that is all I can do until I get the carpet in and mudding contractor in. I really need to get moving on those two items.

I finally got around to taking a few pictures of the basement progress. Feeling pretty good about how far we have gotten so far. Still have a ways to go though. At least the rooms are taking shape now. New pictures
