Had a bit of a virus

I somehow got a virus on my server at home. It was a good one also. Didn’t do to much looking into what it was, just shutdown the server and started rebuilding it last night. I needed to redo it anyway. Just made sure my data drive didn’t have any virus’ on it before I went to far. Everything seems to be coming back up just fine on the new server.

Part of the backyard landscaping is finished

After digging a bit and then getting most of the grass out of the area I wanted to landscape against the back of the house, I was able to get the landscaping felt down last night. It all looked pretty good. I then put down the mulch. We had 22 bags of cyprus mulch. I only have one left now. I still want to put down the felt and mulch around the deck area. I belive I will have enough felt, but I will need to get about 5 more bags of mulch probably. I hope to get those tonight. If it is not raining I want to finish this project tonight. Should not take long at all to finish. Just have to dig a bit and then get the grass out of the area. Then put the felt down and mulch. I will look around for plants, shrubs and flowers that are onsale this fall. If I do not find anything I like I will just plan to start on planting stuff in the spring. Anything I plant needs to be hardy and needs to be able to take direct sunlight and dry soil. I can water but probably will forget. I was just glad to get the main part all finished and was glad that moving the two sprinkler heads out of the way was very easy and didnt’ take much time at all. I turned that zone on for a few minutes last night just to make sure it worked and the heads were rotating the correct amount and they were not hitting the house or anything. Seems to be doing great.

Upgraded the blog

WordPress, the blog system I use for this site has a new version. I just upgraded all files and the backend. Nothing should really be changed. On the backend I cleaned up a bunch of stuff that I had left in the old version. I think I should have it back to the way I had it before.

Basement one step further

Well had a friend over on sunday and we worked on the basement for a few hours. Finally got around to putting the gas line in that I wanted to put in the ceiling and wall before I cover with drywall. Cost about 60 bucks and now have a line to the wall that I am hopeing to put the gas burning stove on. Have a few things to think about but pretty sure that is where I want it. Just need to think about the electrical line I have right there. Probably will remove the outlet or move it. Glad to have that project completed though. I believe I am ready to drywall the ceiling now.

Put up a few more sheets of drywall over the weekend

I started putting drywall at the base of the walls in the main room over the weekend. I finished all I can on the center wall. I do not want to drywall the top of the walls yet because I want to put the ceiling up first. I now need to move a few items around in the basement and clean some stuff up and I will then continue putting peices of drywall up in the rest of the basement. I may move into the utility room and finish that side of the wall there also. No rush there but I can’t do the wall next to the bathroom until I bet all the cabinets and shower and stuff in the bathroom. I think I will need to take down a few studs before I can get all the items into that room.

Man that dyson is awesome

Well after missing the shipment friday. They would not let me pick up the unit at fedex. The vacuum was shipped via fedex home. I had no idea that fedex home is run like a seperate company. They use different trucks different warehouses and everything. They do deliever on saturday though. So at about 12 noon on saturday I was out mowing our front yard and the white fedex van backs into my driveway. I walk over sign for the package and take it in to check it out. Got it all unboxed and it is in great shape. No damage from shipping at all. Put it together and try to figure it out. Started it up and vacuumed the living room. We had just vacuumed the living room the day before with our orek. The dyson had a bit more power and we picked up so much more dirt, dust and dog hair. It is kind of scary how much more we picked up. I pretty much filled the container up with dog hair. Couldn’t really say any dog hair on the carpet but it was picking it up from somewhere. On sunday I decided to try out the extra attachment you get when you buy the purple version. Since it was powered by the suction I was not sure how it would work. Amazingly well actually. I vacuumed all three chairs/sofas. The attachment worked great. I acumulated a few more hair balls and dirt from the sofas. This thing is very nice. I am very happy with this purchase.

New vacuum

After figuring out the hard way, that if you have a pet you should get a vacuum that has a bagless design, we have purchased a dyson DC07 animal edition. That was the original vacuum I wanted but was talked into an orek because of how small, light and easy to use it is. It comes with a great warrenty and is a good vacuum. We plan to keep it. I plan to use one upstairs and the other downstairs. We have an old panasonic that I plan on getting rid of after the new dyson comes. Looks like it is on the truck and will be delievered today. With any luck it will be on my door step when I get home. It says it needs a signiture so I will probably have to go pick it up at the fedex distribution center after work. I hope this thing works as good as all the reviews say it works. I have read a few other reviews on the web and have tried a few before. I didn’t know if we should get the purple on or the yellow one. I found a great deal on ebay for a new in the box with warrenty purple model so could not pass it up. I just saw they are coming out with a new line next month. Wonder if they will be any better than this one. At any rate, I hope to give it a try tonight. The whole reason we wanted one is because of the smell we get after about a month with our current vacuum. The dog hair starts to make the room smell a bit when we use it. We end up through the vacuum bag away when it is not even half full because it smells bad. Nothin like cleaning a room and it smells worse than it did before you start cleaning. With this I can just walk out to the garabage container and get rid of the hair right away.

Funny problem with one zone on sprinkler system

Well I turned the water back on for the main line of the sprinkler sytem last night after I had to turn it off the night before because I saw water trickling down the driveway. I went out to take a look at the valve that I thought was having problems and heard a noise coming from the valve. Water rushing. I knew this was not good. I opened up the valve cover and there was no water in the box. That was good news. So I opened the valve manually(just turned the valve lever). that let the water flow through it for a bit. I then closed it and no more noise. I check to make sure there was not a leak or trickling near the driveway. All looked good. So I turned that zone on through the timer/controller. It came on fine. So I turned it back off and checked the valve again and also check the sprinkler head that was trickling. Nothing. So problem seems to be fixed. That was much easier than I thought it was going to be.

Didn’t do much at all last night

Didn’t do much as far as drywalling or working on the basement last night. Had some tv shows to watch. I did get the vent in the hallway (ceiling) finalized. I figured out a cheap and easy way to extend the vent down to the level of the drywall. I just pocket screwed a few 2×4’s together and put them up between the studs. I then used the metal duct tape to make the connection air tight. Screwed everything up and made sure the vent fits. I now am ready to finish the ceiling in the hallway. Not sure when I want to do that though. I am holding off to see what type of projector I want to buy for that area. This weekend I believe I will start putting the drywall in at the bottom of the main room. The areas I cannot do will be the wall I have to take apart to put the show into the bathroom area and that should be it. I hope to put the gas line in the main room in the next few weeks. After I do that I should be able to drywall all of the room. I will need help with the ceiling parts but the walls I should be able to do by myself. I have worked out a good system and can get a few sheets up a day. it all depends on the amount of cuts and how many holes I have to put in the peice for recepticals. I hope to get the wall done that the french doors will be put in so I can hang the french doors either this weekend or next week. That will be nice to see completed.
