Got the last wall sanded

I am going to have to go over this last wall another time with mud on the screw holes. This is the one I used the wrong screws so I am going to have to fix a few of them with another coat. Man that dust sucks when sanding. I just need to sand the ceiling now. I can then vacum up the mess I made and then wipe down the walls and put a second and hopefully final coat on everything. Then just have to sand one last time. Then it will be ready to prime.

Mowed the lawn for the second time this season

Moved the mower down a notch for this cutting. The lawn is starting to look really good. I am glad I mowed yesterday though. Today I woke up to snow falling. I can’t believe it. It is snowing on april 27th.

It figures

As soon as I get the sprinkler system finished and pretty much tweaked and ready to finally set the timer so it automatically waters the yard before I wake up, it decides to rain like every other day. Guess I should not complain. I don’t have to pay to keep my grass looking good and filling in. Hopefully my lawn will finally fill in and green up. I have a problem in my back yard, it is called a dog. Between her killing the grass and digging, I am pretty sure I will not try very hard to keep the backyard looking good for at least the next year or two. Jenny had pretty much decided she wants to stay in the area so I think I will keep working at the basement and make sure the sprinkler system is working correctly. Want to get the gas line in for the gas burning stove I want to put in the basement. After I get that line in I can start putting drywall on the ceiling anytime again. After I move a bit more on the basement I want to get one side of the front yard finished with landscaping. Think I will try to save up about 2 to 300 dollars to put in some ornamental grass and some bushes. Then the normal edging and mulch finishing touches. Should be able to finish up that project in less than a day. Figure I can pick everything up on a friday night and wake up early saturday and get things hammered out before lunch. I think I will pull a hose out and put it around the perimeter of the area I want to landscape. I will then turn the sprinkers on and make sure they do not mess anything up and then I will start spraying the grass in that area with round-up, that or dig up the good grass and transplant it into the backyard where taylor has dug a few spots up. Who knows, probably will re-use the grass and that will be good so I can lower the are I want to mulch anyway. Then I will not have to worry about the mulch getting out into the grass or anything. This time I am going to for sure put the weed barrier down. I did not do that on the side of the house or around the trees I planted and am regretting that for sure. Have to keep weeding and getting some of the grass out of those areas. Not to bad though. I will be happy if I can get one side of the front done this spring and then the other side this fall. I think that will do it for landscaping for some time. I would love to do some in the backyard also, but am worried about what taylor will do to it.

Sanded the office walls today

Sanding sucks for sure. That dust is horrible. I was able to finish 3 of the 4 walls today. I have the 4th wall and the ceiling to finish up before I put the second coat of mud on the joints. Only need to work on about 4 screw holes still, the rest are ready to go. Went and bought 5 gallons of primer today. One of these days that room will be ready for primer. Still need to figure out if i am going to leave the ceiling smooth or texture it. I am leaning on leaving it smooth. Will be less work, that is if I can make it really smooth.

Well, I believe I have fixed that last 2 leaks

Late last night I fixed the inside leak on the pipe going to the sprinkler system. This morning I got up and went out and took apart the backflow preventer and took off the part that was leaking. Put some more teflon tape on it and tightened it back up and then sweated it back on. Waited for a few and then turned the water back on. No leaks so far. Watered the front yard and still no leak.

Sprinkler system is working

Well last night I tweaked all the sprinkler heads to they do not hit the house and do not over water areas to much. I had to put larger heads on most of the sprinklers because I have so much water pressure now. Could have put 5 heads to a zone without a problem. I still have one zone free to do with what I want. Just need to dig the leftover zone up sometime. I still need to dig one sprinkler head up and get it positioned a bit better. Hopefully I will have time to do that this evening. I still need to fix the small leak outside on the over flow preventer. I just found a leak inside last night also. Came in after I was soaked because taylor was having a blast in the sprinkler system and getting me wet at the same time. Found a puddle of water in the corner of the basement. Not to bad. Didn’t get any of the computer stuff wet but was getting close. There is a leak now just as the line runs outside. I will need to resweat that joint tonight if time permits. I do not want to run the system until that is fixed for sure. Can’t believe it. Was fun, guess just running it for about 2 hours worked something free. hopeful that will be a very fast fix. Just add a little soder and that should do it.

Beautiful weather yesterday

Got home and it was so nice out I decided to mow the lawn. Didn’t really need to move the whole thing but it didn’t hurt. Only a few places had a good amount of grass growth. I noticed a few weeds starting up also. Think it is time to put some weed-b-gone down again. Was good to clean up the lawn a little bit from the winter effects. Was able to fix the leak on the valve in the basement for the sprinkler system. Just had to tighten down the connecting a full rotation. As for the leak outside. It still is giving me some problems. I am going to have to either try the epoxy I bought or just redo the connection altogether. Not sure which one I will do. Might just break down and try to take the connection about and re-sweat it back on after I fix the threaded connection. If it is not raining tonight I will try to work on it.

That tape woked ok

Well after putting a good wrap of that black plumbers tape on the threaded connection, I think I will need to stop by and get that epoxy stuff. The tape seems to do ok but after about 15 mins of running the system, I had a small bulge coming out of the tape. I might be able to put another few wraps around that area but I do not think this will work to good. I think I will go ahead and get the epoxy tomorrow and give that a try. Hopefully that will work. Otherwise I might have to get another backflow preventor.

Went to the local hardware store at lunch

Was asking them if there was an easy way to fix my slow leak on my backflow preventor outside my house. They said there were two ways. Said to try this tape stuff first. Looks like a very think electrical tape. Rap that around the pipe a few times and that stops many leaks they said. The other to try next is a two part epoxy. This will be permanent. I will get that next if this tape does not work. The epoxy you just cut a small part off of the roll you buy and then work the two parts together. Kind of a clay like substance. Then you put that stuff on the leaking part, try to get it very dry. Then wait for about 30 mins and I guess it hardens to almost steel strength from the packaging. So I will try the tape stuff tonight when I get home. I would like to work on tweaking the sprinkler system for a bit tonight. Since I have it hooked to 3/4 inch pipe now I seem to have more pressure to the heads so the spray is going much further than last year. I am going to have to change some of the nozzles and tighten down the screws on some of them also. I think a few adjustments in the front and side yard, back yard I think I will just need to make a few adjustments also. The side yard next to the garage I will make a few adjustments and then I need to adjust and stabilize the one head I had to change last year at the end of the year. It has tilted a bit through the winter so I will need to put some top soil around it and get it aimed correctly. I have talked to the neighbor on that side and he doesn’t mind that I am water some of his yard. Didn’t think he would mind at all.

Replaced the shocks on my rear lift gate on the jeep

Wow was it easy to do and a huge difference. It cost me about 40 bucks to replace both of the shocks for the rear door. They have been getting very week in the past year. I didn’t know how weak though. I was in the process of taking the first off and all of a sudden the rear door came slamming down on my head. That sure was smart. I knew it was going to happen and didn’t even think about it. Replace that shock and could tell a difference already. So I went on and replace the other shock also. Wow, you can actually pull the lactch for the door and then the door opens by itself now. No help needed. Amazing. I also check the pressure on my spair tire and jenny’s spair tire. Both were very low. Mine had a bout 5psi, not the 35 that it needed. Jenny does not have a full size spair so it needed 60 psi, it only had about 10 psi. Both were so low they probably would not have helped at all if we had a tired go out on the road. Good thing we have AAA.
