Jeep is in the shop

Over the weekend I was taking jenny dinner and heard a thump while on the road. Worried me a bit. Made it to the hospital and back. On the way back the jeep started to squeak. Thought maybe a brake problem. The back drivers side wheel was hot to the touch when I got home. So I took it apart and tried to see what was up. Brakes seemed to be OK and the emergency brake seemed to be working OK. So my very little knowledge of cars tells me maybe it is the bearing. That is not a good thing to mess with. So didn’t drive it the rest of the weekend and got a ride to work yesterday and today. Jeep is in the shop today and they think everything is fine with the drive train, will plan on taking off the front and rear covers on the transfer case housings to make sure all gears are looking OK. Then put back together and put new fluid in them. Also in the main transfer case near the transmission. They are also fixing my glovebox that has been broken since winter. I am happy about that one. The got it apart and found a few pins that need to be replace, that is it. 70 bucks is all it take to fix that. So now they will check the drivers side rear wheel and see what is up with that and hopefully I will get out of this one with less than 500 bucks into it. Just want it to make it another 3 years if possible. Still in great shape. Love driving it to. Although gas is making it expensive to drive everywhere.

Drywall is coming along

Made it down stairs over the weekend and put in a few hours mudding my new office. Have almost of the walls covered with first coat and I have started on the beam on the ceiling. That thing sure does take a lot of mud. Learning as I go. At first I was worried I was not going to pick it up fast. Found that it just take a bunch of mud for seams and corners. Put it on thick and then smooth it off and take the extra away. Seems to be going pretty good now. WIll try to finish up the rest of the room with the first coat and then put second coat on the rest of the room. I might have it ready for paint by the end of the week. Still have to put the ceiling board up though. Have not tackled that as of yet.

Another week has come and gone

It is not friday and I have not really worked on the basement at all this week. I did go down and put one coat of mud on some of the screws in the office area. I plan to work on the ceiling area of that room tonight with shawn. I still have to run the two coax cables outside to the dish in that corner of the house and I also need to build the two areas out and cover up the drain pipes in that area. Other than that, We can drywall the rest of the ceiling. Hopefully I can just head outside when i get home and get that whole drilled and finish those two cables. The other sofet area I think I can drywall most of the area with shawn tonight and just leave a few holes for the sofet area. Who knows, we probably can measure together and get that sofet put up in less than 30 mins also. Might just do that and get it our of the way. Hope I can get that room all drywalled by the end of the weekend and at least one coat of mud up. I can then think about priming that room and move all of the computer stuff down to that area then. Just put up some plastic in the doorway so we do not get that room all dusty. Can be the computer room and workout room while we make dust and what not in the rest of the basement.

Yesterday shawn came over to cut up all his plywood

We have been working on both of our basements the last 2 weeks. A few nights each week. We have put in plumbing and gas so he can move his washer and dryer up to his main level in his house. He is also putting in an electical outlet and phone and cable to a center position in his living room. At the same time he had his backflow preventer put in and all plumbed up for his sprinkler system. I am a bit jealous about that. I still have not finished mine up yet. I have to get to that before I want to start watering my yard. Just got 2 backs of grass seed that I need to put down soon. Just picked up my years supply of fertilizer at the local lawn and garden shop over the weekend. Nice to get all that I need at one time and save a bit also. Was only 75 bucks to do the whole yard. It did a great job last year I think.

So anyway back to the plywood. I had bought a new sears table saw a few months back. Last night was the first time I really got to use it. And boy did we use it. We cut quite a few pieces out of 2 and a half sheets of 3/4 inch plywood. It was quite fun actually took alot of time because we wanted to be very accurate so every cut to a bit to setup and make sure it was correct. Only made one bad cut out of all the pieces we cut. We were able to fix that cut easily and the scrap we could actually use for another part of the cabinet. He will need to come back one more time to cut up the back panels out of 1/4 inch plywood and then we have another sheet and a half that he will probably want to cut up for a few other pieces he will need. I can’t wait to see how they turn out.

Office is getting closer

Well over the weekend a friend came over and we worked for another couple of hours. We finished some insulation and put in the last heating duct and then finished the last 2 walls that needed drywall. We also started to drywall the Metal Ibeam in the room. I finished up the last 4 pieces after he left. Then I cleaned up the room and stood back to just look at it. I am very happy with how it is turning out so far. Only one spot I am a bit concerned about but there is nothing I can do about it. There is one stud that is sticking out a bit and when you look down the wall with your head against it you can see the wall bows out a bit. You really can’t notice unless you put your head against the wall though. I need to finish up insulating around the heating duct and then drill the hole in the outside wall to run the coax cables to the satellite and then I will be ready to drywall the ceiling. I need to make a soft to go around the one waste pipe on the ceiling and then make a small box around the waste pipe in the floor also. Will probably look a little bit weird but there really is nothing else I can do to hide them. Will be happy when all of that is done. I think I underestimated the amount of drywall I will be needing to finish the basement but only time will tell. I think I will have enough to get most of the large room finished though. After I finish up a few things in the office I think I will start getting the Ibeam ready and drywall that beam first and then run the wire for all the speakers. Then I just have to think about the gas line I want to run for the gas stove I want to put in down there and then I think I am ready to drywall the large room.

Drywall is going up slowly

Well I have worked on the drywall in the office for two evenings. About 2 hours each time. I have 2 walls finished and a 3rd one about half done. I just trimmed out the Metal ibeam last night. I hope to put a few more hours in tomorrow on that room. Hopefully I can get the last 2 walls finished and the ibeam covered and start on the ceiling. I need to build a sofet real quick on one part and then the ceiling should go up pretty quick. If Shawn can help me for 2 to 4 hours tomorrow I think that will work our great.

Drywall is going up slow but sure

Sat. night I had some help with the drywall. First time I have put up drywall in a very long time. Went slow for sure. Only got one wall put up. Think I am getting the hang of it again though. We had the wrong screws so I am going to have to clean up some of the holes before I mud that wall. The screws were for sheet rock. They tear up the surface of the drywall as they sink into the sheet. Not a bid deal, I just have to make sure that nothing is sticking out of that area before I start to mud. Went and bought the right screws the next morning and also a drywall screw gun. It works much better than the dewalt attachment I had bought for my screw driver. Now I have two screw guns I can use to put up the drywall. That should make it go a little faster. So a few nights this week I hope to have some help so I can finish up the office. So by next weekend the office will hopefully be all drywalled up and ready to mud if I want to.

Well tonight I hope to finish pulling the last of the cable for the office area

The cable I am pulling right now is not actually for the office area but for some rooms upstairs. I have to get these two lines pulled before I can put the ceiling drywall up though. I started pulling yesterday. I have to pull a bit more, hope it takes no more than an hour tonight. Then I will finish up the insullation around 2 vent pipes and take the ceiling fan down. I need to take the plates off of all of the jacks in the room also. Then all I have to do is finish up the heater duct and I am ready for the drywall.

New table saw is all dialed in now

Last night I took the blade guard off and then aligned the blade and put the guard back on. This time I was very careful in how I lined things up. Tightened stuff back down and then tested the alignment with a 2 foot long piece of leftover 2×4. Wood went through the saw with no problems at all. Actually works great. I am using the cheap steel blade that came with the saw and it went through it with no problems and the anti-kickback device works great also. You can let go of the piece of wood and it doesn’t move, then you can go around to the other side and pull the wood the rest of the way through.

Planning on using my table saw for the first project this weekend.

I need to get the blade guard adjusted so we can run a full sheet of plywood through the saw. Right now it is off to the left a bit so when you push the wood through it always catches on the blade guard (part that attaches to the table saw). I just need to loosen up the guard and align it and then tighten back up. I am hoping that is all I have to do. I hope it is not a problem with the saw. At anyrate. I plan to take it apart tonight and get it working. Then I will be ready for the weekend and I can work on getting the office all finished up so we can put up drywall on sunday also.
