I have noticed that other blogs have been getting quite a few spams lately. Luckily I have not had that problem. But at any rate. Time to update. Hopefully the upgrade will go smoothly. You have to love movabletype
New pc finally up and running
I had an extra PIII 1gig laying around. I finally bought a case for it and took some other parts and made a new pc out of it. Now I have a 733 running my firewall and a few other things. I have a 1.33 ready to be put in as my main file/web/video/weather server. I have the old server an 1.8 that I will proably get ready to be put in and hooked up to the new projector I am eyeing when the basement is finished. Then I have this 1 gig for playing around with. Right now I put mandrake 9.2 on it to play with linux a bit. Now I just have to get another table and move all of this stuff down to the basement after I drywall the office down there. IT will be nice to get them downstairs and start on redoing the office upstairs for jenny. So anyway, I will have to take a picture of this new case. It is a cheap one but for the price, very nice. Has a plexi-glass side and I have a fan on the top, side and two in the back. Keeps the temp at about 71 degs right now. Not bad for a 50 dollar case and power supply. I am getting a 4 foot rack from a friend. I am going to have to start planning on what I want to do to fill that. Thinking I will put all my networking stuff in that. Put the firewall in there and maybe even the server also. Then just have one monitor and keyboard on a video swith there. Out of the way and don’t touch them to much anyway.

Getting closer
I have not done to much on the basement lately. I am close to being ready for most of the drywalling of the office though. I think I am going to go price out drywall and the shower soon. Figure out if I want to have it delivered or rent a truck and pick it up myself. Figure I will need roughly 100 sheets of drywall to finish the basement. I am thinking I will get about 75 sheets and the shower at the same time. I think I can drywall the office and start on the main room and the bathroom. I will work on putting the cabinets and the fixtures in the bathroom this summer probably. Want to get the basement drywalled ASAP. Would love to be using it by next christmas. After drywall the only other big cost will be the carpeting. I am still trying to decide what I want to do as far as the gas stove goes. I should probably just plop the change down now and just do it.

Taylor having some issues
Well jenny took taylor to the vet over the weekend. We noticed she had been itching her ears more than normal. So the vet confirmed, she has an infection in her ears. Mostly her right ear. We are treating it twice a day for now. Her left ear had a small infection but as of last night I think we have the one under control. The right I guess is pretty bad. We have 2 pills to give her everyday and then clean her ears and then put some cream on them twice a day. She also have two small spots on her head we have to watch and might have to have the vet take them off. He said mabe later this year he might just take them off because they will keep causing problems. Poor dog. Hopefully this will get her back into shape and we will just have to keep a better eye on her ears.

Forgot I had this thing
I was out on my site the other day just making sure everything is kind of working still. I have not fixed everything that I broke when I moved to a hosted service for jnewcastle.com ( I love the email function of lunarpages now though, cuts back on the 50 some odd spam messages I was getting a day, great thing that spam assasin). So I thought I would update the blog this week. Will try to make at least weekly entries again.

Voip one step closer, dvdxcopy problems
Well last night I put my first card into my linux firewall that is running asterisk. After a little fiddling, I was able to get the line working. Called my home phone and the asterisk server answered the line. Well that is not what I was looking to do at all. But at least it is working. The conference calling works and music on hold works also. So I am getting a bit farther now. Next I think I will get the IP phone or sipura device. Not sure which I will get yet. Would love to play with a nice cisco IP phone but think I will just play with it and then sell it so I am really leaning towards the sipura.
I think I might have finally found out why my dvdxcopy is not working. I have to disable another piece of software tonight and I think it should work for me. Hope fully I will have some time to work on that after dinner tonight.
Going to plan to take jenny’s car into circuitcity tomorrow to get the new Cd changer installed. Think she will be happy when that gets put in.

Well I finally got a webhosting package
Today I went for it and just bought a webhosting package. I have been looking for about 2 or 3 years and finally said go for it. I wanted to get reliable email for jenny and myself so we went for it. Hopefully it will be up and working in the next few days. Then I will get a basic site up and running and get a few email address going. Then I will work on moving the website over to their host.

One more electical outlet up and running
Well I decided to work on the basement for a bit this weekend. What got me going was I went over to a friends house and was helping him with his basement. Trying to seal up some drafts he had found. Ended up taking most of the afternoon on saturday. That got me going on working on the basement again. So I put in another breaker and ran another power line out to the pole in the middle of the basement. That will also power the project a few feet away from the pole (a separate outlet in the ceiling for that). I need to move one set of outlets off of the light circuit in the basement and then electric should be finished down their. I probably will need to work on the electric for the bar but I have lines run to that area already and have a gfi outlet there already. So hopefully starting next month I will get back into the basement thing and finish up on insullation and run the rest of the speaker wires and get the order of drywall going and get that all in the basement. After that I have a few days of putting the drywall up and then mudding. That will be nice to have finished. Will start to look like a room them.

Noticed it has been awhile since I have made any entries
Well, I have been busy but not that busy. Just have forgotten to make any entries I guess. I have put in a new(old box but a bit faster) firewall. I almost have a new fileserver/websever ready to go also. I have a new phone system on the way also. It is running on linux and the actual software package is called asterisk (www.Asterisk.org). Very neat. Is supports many different phone formats, I am most interested in the IP phone portion. If you have any softphones or hardphones you would like to use with the system let me know. I am in the process of ordering a hard phone and soon will have a voice service to use that is voip. So cheap longdistance for everyone. Just let me know and I can setup and extention and voicemail (for people I know that is). I have about 4 different softphones setup on different pc’s so far and they all seem to be working fine. I can give you a free copy of a softphone program I use, it seems to work great. I am working on music on hold and a few other things. I need to get a fxo card so I can put my sbc line into the system. That should solve a few problems I am having. The software I believe uses this card for timing functions and a few other things that I am trying to do. So in the next few months I hope to have the system refined and working great. Thanksgiving 2003
Well the extended weekend is almost over. It was very nice to have 4 days off work in a row. Very relaxing. Didn’t get to much done around the house, had some friends over and my parents and brother on the weekend. Still have not gotten up on the roof to finish up the christmas lights. Have all other decorations up, just have to get the lights on the garage roof. Got a new dvd player this weekend. It is a samsung. I can now play mp3’s and other cd’s and dvd’s that I could not before. Have not messed with it yet. Just hooked it up and made sure it worked. Have all the presents bought for christmas already. Jenny, is wrapping them little by little. Have a bedroom full of them right now. Good to have that out of the way already. Cleaned my fishtank for the first time in oh maybe 5 months. It needed it. Fish seem to be doing just fine. Tank looks really good now. I think I might keep a smaller tank going, had thought about just getting rid of all of it at one time. Well all for now. TIme to go get ready to watch alias now.
