Well, after looking at the dyson and my wife letting me know what she likes. We went to the orek shop and later that day decided on the orek. I think it will be a great vacuum. The thing that my wife likes best is the weight. Only 8 pounds. I think it will work great. Very nice package when it comes down to functionality and everything. The only bad thing about the vac would be the price tag. Not the cheapest on the market at all.
vacuum
Thinking of buying a new vacuum. Found a really nice one I like and bestbuy has it. They have a 10% sale going on now also so I might have to go pick this think up. It is on sale for 399 supposily. That is one chunk of change for a vacuum. Have read a lot of reviews and people really like it. It is the a dyson DCO7. http://www.dyson.com. Really does look nice. Planning on just getting the yellow one.

Heating ducts for basement
Hope to put in 2 of the 4 heating ducts in the basement this weekend. Still need to put in one return duct and one duct in the office and not sure If I want to put one in the bathroom or not. Probably will end up putting one in the wall just to be save. First time working with sheetmetal so wish me luck. Hope it will take an hour or so to put both in.

video server
Well I now have a video server up and running at home. Using a great piece of sofware called dvarchive, you can get it at http://dvarchive.sf.net
It pretty much acts as a replaytv on my network. So I can download shows from either of my two replaytv’s I can stream from either of them I can stream back to them. I can do a few other things also. So now I can put my 120gig drive back in my server and just make that a video drive. Can fit about 60 medium format shows on that drive. That should be plenty until I get my dvd writer.

Just another day
Well another weekend has passed and didn’t get much accomplished on the basement again. I did hook up and test two wall lights. They are wired into an existing 2way switch for the stairs. So now the hallway and the stair lights are all hooked up. Guess my big buy for the basement next month will be the doors, some drywall and some can lights. I need to get speaker wire also. After I get those main items I will have alot more work to do. Right now I am just slow but sure wiring stuff up. Have all the tools I need now to put in the coax for cable and satallite. I can also run the ethernet cabling. I need to go and get 2 2×6’s for framing in the metal poll in the middle of the room. I want to put one cat5 cable there and power also. So pretty much in a holding pattern on the basement at this time. Need more supplies. But like I said, at least I can keep wireing stuff when I have time.

Problem might be solved
After about 10 trips up and down the stairs, I think I have both network cables run down to the basement and tucked away nicely. Made sure to cross over power cables at a 90 degree if I had to cross over them. Made sure both 1 and 2 and 3 and 6 (pairs that is) were hooked up and tested out fine. Both replaytv’s seemed to be doing ok. I had to reboot the one in the bedroom so it would do it’s upnp thing so both could see each other. Started to stream from the one in the bedroom to the one in the living room (jenny was studying in the bedroom) and it seemed to stream just a bit choppy on video and audio. Thought to my self, what did I do wrong now. So went on to do other things and didn’t get back to it last night. Poped it on this morning and it streamed the rest of the show i was watching just fine. Think it might have been to much for the replay in the bedroom when I was messing with it. Jenny was watch the replay in the bedroom and I had just rebooted it and I also was getting a 2 gig show off of it. To many things at the same time, all at startup for the replay, think that might have been the problem. Extracted shows off of each reaplay this morning and that went fine. So think the switch down stairs and the 3 lines I have run down stairs are fine. Now to wire up the other 5 phone/network jack in the house and get them hooked up to the switch down stairs. Might not have enough ports on it right now. Might have to hook another switch up or hub for a short time. But all seems to be working on the network front now.

Nothin special
Well it is again a new week, but tuesday instead of monday. Thought I would spice it up a bit. Actually yesterday (monday) was horrible. Going through an office upgrade at work and man is it hard to take care of a terminal server a day. When you have 60 plus users and about 20 of them are effect each time you upgrade a terminal server, it makes for a long day. Oh well. Almost all fixed and running now. But office xp sure is more of a hog than the good old office 97. Have not done any work on the basement lately. Trying to figure out my coax lines and network lines right now. Got a new cable tester online and am trying to figure out what I have messed up. Think I found the problem. You would think that a simple cat5 cable would be easy to make. Well I think I have figured out every incorrect way to make a cable. After some messing around I have figured out how to make one cat5 cable be two ethernet connections. A ethernet cable actually only uses 2 pair, pins 1 and 2 and pins 3 and 6. Well I guess I messed up on a cable a long time ago and never really checked it after I made it. Come to find out this cable has been my problem the whole time. So at lunch today I went out to get more crimp on connectors since I only had one left and tonight I should be able to crimp on two new connectors with the correct pin out. After that I should have both of my replaytv 5040s on the network at full speed(100meg full duplex). And the cables will be run down into the basement instead of the good old lay it on the carpet method. Love it when cables run down the hallway or through the middle of the office. That has been bugging me for to long. Actually I hope this is the only problem I have with the lines. I think it is. So anyway. Hope to have time to do that and put up two wall sconces in the hallway in the basement. Really need to decide on a double door for the basement main room also so I can finish the rough in for that hallway wall and get ready to put up the dry wall and finish the lines for the lights also.

Another weekend that went fine
Well it only seems like I am putting up entries after the weekend is over for some reason. Had another good weekend with the dog. Taylor is doing better and better. She finally enjoys either laying next to us on the couch or laying on the floor next to the couch. She only got hyper one time this weekend when friends were over. After they left she was back to just laying next to us and chewing on her rawhide. Got some more work done on the basement. Have a partial hallway up and the ceiling of the hallway framed. Will be a bit of a low ceiling but that is because of the ductwork and pipes. Plan to put a little compartment there also with a plexie glass front so we can put the new projector in the wall. When I say new projector, I have not even picked it out yet.
So I am almost out of supplies once again for the basement. Need to think about what I want to do for lighting and data/tv cables also. Will probably cable some of the stuff this week and also plan out the lighting for the basement. After that is done I will need to spend some money. Have picked out two doors (one for bathroom and one for utility room) need to find and plan out the double door into the main room from the stairs/hallway. After I have found the doors I want then will be the big bill. The dry wall. Think it will be about 4 or 5 hundred dollars for that. Have the tools but not the dry wall yet. After that is up we will have a much better looking room. Right now it is still hard to imagine what it is going to look like. Well all for now.

Great weekend
Well, had a pretty good weekend. Menards is having their 20.03 % off what ever you can fit into a 10 gallon container. Well I could not pass this up at all. Finishing off my basement and all, I had to go back a few times. Got most electrical products I needed. Some more wire, eight can lights for the rooms in the basement, a few more outlets and some wall switches. Got the ceiling fan/light for the bathroom. That will be fun to put in. Hope to start on the can lights this week. Finished up most of the insulation for the outside walls. Have to go back and get about 8 more rolls for the few inside walls of the basement and then about 30 rolls for the ceiling. After that I have some data and audio video cable to run and then we can drywall. Hope to get most of this done this winter, so the summer I just have to finish the bathroom and put the carpet down, just finish work.
