Everything is finalized with the car and it was sitting in the garage last night

It was kind of a late night last night.  Jen and I both took off right a 5 and met at the dealership.  We walked into the business managers office and started signing.  Jen signed her old car over and then we moved right on to the papers for the volvo.  Took about 10 minutes and then we walked back to the salesmans office and he went through the manuals and walked us to the car.  Went over the car a bit and the menus on the cars computer and then we were off (about 6:10).  Headed home, actually beat jenny home and I don’t know how I managed that.  Relaxed for a few while talyor ate and played in the backyard and then took off to get some dinner.  We did a few other things like driving around and taking a few things to jenny’s office and driving around a bit more and stopped a good friends house to show the car off and driving a little more.  Man that car is fun to drive.  Didn’t get home until about 9:30.  Everything was great with the car, the only thing we thought was a bit odd and kind of funny at the same time was the windshield wiper fluid was low.  The car was telling us to add fluid so I did that before she took of this morning.  Hopefully it was just low and not a hole or leak in the container.

All set to pick up the car this evening

Just called the bank and the insurance office to make sure everything was in order and we are all set to pick the car up tonight.  Our insurance did not go up as much as I thought it would go up.  Not bad at all.  I plan on shopping around in a bit and checking to make sure other insurance companies would not be cheaper for comparable policies.  We tried that once before with AAA becuase jen and I both like AAA.  Our current policy with Citizens was cheaper and I have not had a problem with them on any of our policies as of yet.
So if all goes as planned we will be rid of the cirus tonight and have a nice new volvo in the garage.  I want to get the garage floor cleaned up and mopped if time permits this evening.  The cirus had a small oil leak and I have a few spots left over from when I was mudding the ceiling.  I wanted to clean up the floor once more before the winter sets in anyway.  It gets dirty very fast as soon as it starts to snow and they start laying down the salt on the roads.  The epoxy paint treatment I put down last year has been great.  It has not started to chip at all.  Well one of the cracks in the floor that the builder put in does have a small 2 inch section that the edge has chipped but that is cement not the paint chipping.  I can’t think what I did there but you can’t even see it unless you know what to look for.  Otherwise the floor has been great.  Only downside of this treatement would be that it is a bit slippery when wet.  I was thinking about putting some mats down in the winter in the two areas we walk on most, then we would not be as apt to slip when exiting the two cars.

Should be picking up jenny’s new car today or tomorrow

We found a 2005 volvo s40 T5 AWD that was a demo car (driven by the sales manager at our local volvo dealer) that had 5661 miles on it.  After doing some research and asking many questions we went with this car over a suv.  The Engine looks a bit weird.  Dont’ think I will be working on this car anytime soon.

This car as you can tell below is not a very large car at all.  Should be great though since it is a small sporty All Wheel Drive Turbo.  The color we are getting is called Metallic Silver.  It is a bit lighter than the car pictured below.

The dash is setup nicely.  There is a small area behind the radio/controls area that is interesting but nice.  It was a bit of a change from the large area in the jeep but I think jenny will love this setup.

In this picture you can see how tight the back seat will be and that is also the interior we have I believe.  It is called T-Tec I believe.  Not leather, but still has heated seats and the fabric is different than anything I have been in.

If everything goes smoothly the loan will be approved today, they will touch up the few spots we saw on the car and then send it off to get a 3M paint protectant that I totally recommend.  I have it on my jeep and you do not have to wax the car at all.  Just wash it and the water beads up.  Will probably get another coupon book after the initial 5 coupons are used up.

UPDATE:
Salesman just called and the paperwork is all set.  The car was in the shop getting touched up and was scheduled to go over and get the paint protectant this afternoon.  It will be ready for us to pick it up tomorrow evening.  We will be able to show it off by this weekend :)

Nice weekend in Chicago

Jenny and I just got back from a nice weekend in chicago.  She went to a conference and I met up with a couple of friends.  Had a great time with derrick and kevin on michigan ave.  Jenny met us for lunch and we shopped a bit more.  Jen and I finally made it to a Cheesecake factory and oh my.  We shared a peice of their carmel cheese cake.  It was the best cheesecake I have ever had.  I told jenny that is what I want for my birthday dessert.  We made it back to michigan in the early afternoon.  Jenny worked on catching up on some stuff at work for a few hours.  I got the heat turned back on at the house and got things unpacked and looked at jenny’s car.  It was acting up on the trip so I just wanted to make sure it was nothing obvious.  We will be car shopping this week.  We figure it is time to get a reliable car for her.  Hopefully in the next week or two we will be able to agree on a nice car for a great price and get a good rate on a car loan.

Finished up in the utility room

After the trick-or-treaters slowed to a complete stop at about 8pm last night, I headed down to the utility panel and worked on that last outlet I wanted put in for the computers. I ended up moving two outlets that are in the main room (outlet on post and projector outlet on ceiling) to their own breaker. I then hooked the new outlet to the same breaker the de-humidifier was on. I updated the labels and called it a night. Everything is working great. Hopefully that is the last time I have to open that panel for a long time. I have one extra 15 amp breaker left and 20 amp breakers. Just enough to fill the rest of the panel. I do not have plans to put anything else on that though. Only think I could think of would be a hot tub or something that needs alot of juice. Other than that I can’ t think of anything that would fill the rest of the panel up.

The rest of the week I will probably get going on the 3 windows. It will be nice to have those all take care of. I want to prime all of the word first and then put them up and paint them. Problem is I am not feeling very motivated right now.

Getting cold at night now

Since it is getting cold at night, I have been trying to get everything set for winter.  Over the weekend I finally got all of the hose all unhooked and stored in the garage.  I did not get it soon enough because one of my sprayers is done.  One of the seals does not work anymore due to freezing I believe.  Oh well.  I still have to figure out what I am going to do with the deck furniture.  I tried putting the chairs against the house next to the deck.  I noticed they were getting dripped on and probably would not be a great place to store them.  I am thinking I will bring the table down stairs.  Will take the legs apart and try to put it behind the furnace.  The chairs I am not sure what I will do with those.  I would like to try to tie them up to the ceiling or something in the utility room.  I will have to think about it a bit more and see what I can do with them.  I probably could make a rack that would allow them to hang from the ceiling actually.  Maybe I will see what I can put together one evening this week.

Finished a few things on the basement over the weekend

On saturday morning I got up and did the normal thing with the dog and relaxed for a bit. Then I headed down to the basement to finish up anything I could think of.

Finally got all of the spearker wires all hooked up and tested. I have my old onkyo setup for testing and a little music in the basement. I will label all of the jacks near the stereo and that will be finished. I also Finished up all of the electrical outlets and data jacks. I will not need to go through each data jack and coax cable to label them and punch each down on a patch panel in the utility room. That will take some time but it will be so nice when that is completed.

I finally got the whole house surge suppressor I bought online. It only took about 15 minutes to install. Came on with no problem. Now to see if this thing really does work good. Only time will tell.

When I was installed that item I noticed few thing I did not like in the electrical panel. I have the projector circuit on the same circuit as the de-humidifier. I also do not like that the computers are running on the same circuit as the outside outlets. I hook my air compressor up every so often and I am sure that surge is not a good thing for the electronics. Luckily they are all on ups’ right now. I put in one outlet in the corner and will move the de-humidifier to the same circuit probably. I just need to get one part from menards at lunch and I will be able to finish that tonight.

I started getting setup to trim out the windows. I hope to be able to get that mostly completed this week. I will have to take a look at my to-do list but I believe I am just about finished with everything for the basement. I still have a few task to complete (mentioned above), but I think I will have no problem being ready for carpet near the end of December. I would like to have everything finished by the time the carpet is installed. So when they install the carpet I can move the furniture into the room and that is it.

Picked up a few things from Menards yesterday

I think I am have all the parts I need to finish up the outlets and low voltage jacks also. I did not like how one of the subwoofer jacks was looking on the side wall. The plate was sticking out from the wall a little. I want it flush. I think I may be able to fix that this weekend. As for the speaker plate on the post in the middle of the room. I will just have to put longer screws on that. I believe I have something to take care of that. Maybe not white headed screws but oh well. I will get over it. I picked up a roll of insullation also. I plan to climb up in the attic tonight and try to get everying squard away with that problem. I will prime and paint the ceiling this weekend if time permits also. Just touching up from that small water mark.

I hope to be able to finish off all of the outlets and what not this weekend. Maybe even get going on priming and painting the doors and door jams. Maybe even start on trimming out the windows in the basement. It all takes time. I just will keep plugging away at it all.

Basement is shaping up

Last night I was able to finish getting the light fixture in the bathroom all hooked up and working. It is about 2 to 3 inches off center. It is going to bug me. I am going to have to see if there is anything I can do to make this look better.

I also started getting all of the data and spearker jacks setup and finalized. I finished all of the data jacks in the main room. I replaced an electrical receptical that I painted right over by accident. I also swapped out another electrical receptical that was the wrong type. I had bought a special rectangle outlet to go with all of the audio cables where the stereo will be. I had put a standard receptical there. I was able to get one whole 4 outlet panel all set and closed up. If time permits tonight I will try to do the other panel. It has all speaker wire/connections in it. A total of 8 if I am counting correctly. I still have a few other outlets and jacks to finish up in the back of the room also and then the main room will be finished as far as wall plates and what not are concerned.

I will be going to a home store at lunch today to get that few parts I need to finish the plates in the main room with. One subwoofer jack is sticking out a bit so I am thinking about replaceing that box with another one that sits a little farther into the wall. Hopefully I can find one today. I also need to look for a little longer finish screws for the speaker terminal in the center of the room. The screws I have do not quite make it to the box I have on that post in the middle of the room. I do not know what I will be doing with that one. I may have to take that box out all together if I can get it out that is or just put an extention box in there so I can screw the face plate in and be done with that.

I also want to pick up a roll of insullation so I can go back up in the attic and finish up with the little water spot I found a few weeks ago. Hopefully it is all dry and looking good so I can put a fewll peices down against the ceiling and then fluff all of the blown in insullation back up.
