Weekend was just to short

This weekend went by so fast. Saturday was a nice relaxing day. Did a whole bunch of nothing. Actally I did work on some stuff in the yard and dug up some grass that was bugging me. I have no idea what type is it but it really sticks out. I had about 5 small circles of this stuff in the front yard alone. It came up really easy. I put some new top soil down and seeded and by that time it was getting pretty warm out.

After church sunday I decided I had to chatch up on stuff. Started right of with changing the oil in the jeep and then washed the car and the jeep. Detailed a bit of the jeep and cleaned all the windows and tires on the car and jeep. After that my hands were gone. Had done so much cleaning and detailing they didn’t like to bend to much. Took a short break and started in on mowing the lawn. After I finished mowing I cleaned up and then jenny and I went to the new Parlor ice cream shop we have been wanting to go to. I grew up near jackson mi. That is were the original All-Star Dairy (parlor) started. There are 3 parlor’s now. One still in jackson, one in east lansing on the edge of MSU’s campus and one off of M-43 in front of Menards in kalamazoo. That still have all of the great icecream dishes they used to have and now serve some food. Man that stuff is good, to much to eat but good. I ordered and only ate about half of the item I ordered. They just give you way to much icecream.

So anyway. I have once again taken about a 3 day break from the basement and garage project. I need to get back to it. I hope if I am feeling ok tonight, to get back to working on the office. I would like to sand and touch up, hopefully one last time. I want to get that room primed this week. I can then move everything back into that room and then get back to the main room and bathroom. I thought I would finish the garage and utility room first but I really want to get primer on the whole basement. I have the utility room almost all primed. I have a few things to touch up before I can finish moving everything around and prime the rest of that room. I think I am going to buy a 5 gallon bucket of paint for the garage and the left over paint from that I will use to put another coat on the utility room. Hopefully that will be enough for that room. Just get that cheap rubber trim to put around the bottom of the wall and that will be good enough.

Can’t get over this really nice weather we are having

Last night I went to the store right after work to get some dinner. Came home and fed the dog and has some dinner myself. Got a couple things together and then let the dog out in to the garage while I touched up a few areas. Finished that and opened the garage up to let it dry. Took the dog out to play a bit and then put her down in her cage. I went back out to mow the lawn real quick and then got the dog back out to chill a bit. Watched a bit of tv and then headed back down stairs to do some priming. I primed until about 9:30. Was able to finish up about half of the utility room. Tonight I plan to moving everything around in the utility room again. I can then prime the other 2 walls I need to finish up. Hopefully after I get those last two walls finished up I can start moving things back to where they should be and move a bunch of stuff from the other rooms into the utility room so I can get going on the other rooms. After a little more touchup last night I believe both the bathroom and office areas are ready for a sanding and check all corners again to make sure they are ready for primer. It has taken a little more time than I thought it would take to get to this point. Hopefully this weekend I can get some primer on those two rooms.

Basement is taking a bit longer than I hoped it would this week

Monday I just relaxed all night so nothing happend that night. Tuesday I setup shop and touched up all rooms in the basement. A few corners needed to be touched up and a few areas in all the rooms needed touchup on little things. Still no primer on anything in the basement. I was hoping to start in the utility room last night but did not. After a quick sanding in the utility room I may prime tonight. That is if I have time after mowing the yard. I have decided I am going to touch up a few seams on the garage ceiling also. That will hopefully take me about 10 minutes to do and then I can prime over those again and also finish the last corner I need to prime and I think I am going to go ahead and prime the wood around the door and trim around the attach access panel. After that the garage will be ready for final coat of paint. So things are moving, just a little slower than I would like.

Nice cool weather

It has cooled off very nicely the last two days. I plan to take advantage of this nice weather and the house being open and start priming the basement. Jenny is out of town for the next few days taking boards so I think I will use the next few evenings to try to get as much primer up in teh basement as I can. The utility room is ready for primer. I have one bump out area that needs a little touch up and that will be ready for primer also. The main room I have a few areas to touch up before primer. The bathroom I have to look over still but I blieve that room is just about ready for primer also. I need to cauk around the shower to seal that but I believe the rest is ready to have primer. The office area I need to work on a few corners but other than that I believe that room is ready for primer also. Little things here and there all add up but I hope to tackle most of those little things this week. I hope I can have everything primed by the end of the week so I can move on to texturing the ceiling and then get ceiling paint up so I can put all the light fixtures in and have that all finished. Then we need to pick paint color which means we need to pick out carpet and florr covering for the bathroom very soon. I plan on two big ticket items and one small item we will need some cashflow for before we finish the basement. The two big items will be the carpet and cast iron stove. The small items are the floor covering in the bathroom, toilet, and trim work for around windows, doors and bottom of the walls. Trim will probably be 200 to 300 I am thinking. toilet will be another 200. Not sure what we will be doing for flooring in bathroom. Carpet I am hoping it will be no more than 2000 to 4000 dollars. Depends on what we go with there also. Getting close to the end result. Just have to get funds together now to finish. After I finish I want to get a projector so we can utilize this area also. Worst case I can put the big crt projector on a cabinet in the back of the room and use that for a little while.

Garage is primed at ready for the final paint color

I have yet to pick the color and go get it but the garage has been fully primed. Well there is one corner I did not get to because it was late in the day and I ran out of paint (didn’t want to open the other 5 gallon bucket of primer). I can prime that last 16 foot corner above the garage door in less than 2 minutes probably. I alos want to prime the wood work in the garage also. I need to go get some trim to prime also and then nail at the bottom of all walls. It is nice to have all the walls one color now. I can see a few spots on the ceiling. Seams that you can see the tape indent a bit. I may go over that real quick with a bit more mud and then prime that real quick again. Other than that I just have to go get the paint.

Looked pretty good on my way out the door this morning

Most of the smell from the paint was gone as of this morning. The parts I have painted acutally looked pretty good this morning. Everything had dried pretty even and I think after the first coat of paint (on top of the primer) you will not be able to pick out the edges of drywall. You can really notice the edges right now because of the color of the mud. With another coat of primer or the first coat of paint I am pretty sure they will dissappear. If I put a flat object against the wall you notice a small indent at the joint. Not much at all. I believe when another coat of paint is put up you won’t be able to see the difference between the drywall sheets and the mud on the edges. I am a bit worried but I think it will be fine. I would hate to have to put more mud up and sand again.

Close to half of the garage has been primed

I moved everything while the grill was warming up and the steak was cooking tonight. After dinner we went to the local ice cream shop to get some treats and then I started in on priming the garage. I only planned to finish up one wall but I actually finished up one side wall and half the ceiling and half of the front wall. I have the other wall to do tomorrow and the other half of the ceiling and the other half of the front wall. I then have to move everything off the back wall and finish up the last wall.
It is so humid out right now that the paint is still drying a hour later. If all goes as planned I hope to have everything else primed in the garage except the back wall at the end of the day tomorrow. I figure I will need to get about 15 more gallons of primer to finish the rest of the garage and the basement. I will probably just pick up another 5 gallons, maybe 10 gallons (2 5 gallon buckets) tomorrow on the way home from work.

Just relaxed

I got out the rest of the stuff to prime the garage and that was it. Just relaxed last night. I need to get back to the basement and garage. For some reason I work hard for like 3 days and then slack on the projects for a month. If I can keep at it like I would like to, I think I can get the garage all finished soon. Garage just needs prime, paint and trim. The utility room just need primer, I may add a second coat depending on how that turns out. Then I want to prime all walls and ceilings in the rest of the basement and also texture the ceiling. At that point I can paint all the ceilings. We still need to decide on paint color for the walls in all of the rooms.

I think the end is in sight now. Still have a bunch of work on the bathroom. I have sink can cabinets for the bathroom. Need to decide on what I want to do next to the shower (closet or cabinet). Need to buy a toilet and decide on the floor treatment. The only other thing after paint in the office and main room will be trim and carpet. Getting close for sure. After carpet is in I will then start thinking about getting the gas cast iron stove in also.

Getting ready to prime

I did not do much on the garage or basement last night. I was able to get all of the stuff together to start priming. That was it. I also mowed the yard. Man was it long. I think that was the longest the lawn has ever been. So tonight I hope to prime at least one if not two of the walls in the garage. I will get some pictures up of the garage as soon as it is primed.

Pictures of the basement before priming

Here are a few pictures of the basement (a bunch of junk in the middle of everything) before I have primed. I had to move almost everything around in the basement so I could get the walls sanded. It took me just a bit of time to get everything out of the utility room to work on all of the walls. I found quite a bit of stuff that we can probably get rid of still.
