Last night I took my wife out to dinner and then we just relaxed for the rest of the evening. It was kind of nice to just sit and watch TV and what not all evening. But tonight I have to kick it in again and get as much as I can, done in the basement. If things go smoothly I hope to get a few sheets of drywall up in the utility room. Hopefully I will not take the network, phone or cable TV wires with it when I put up “The Sheet”
Had a small problem with the coax cable last night but all has been fixed now
While I was moving the cables around and trying to get them mounted and organized I put a little to much tention on one of the short cables that connected a few spliters together and actually snapped or broke the center conductor in it. I didn’t know I did anything to it until jenny yelled down to me and ask if I did something to kill the internet connection. That short cable was the jumper to the spliter for the cable modem. I just had to find the cable that had a problem and put another one in its place. Quick fix. Hopefully tonight I will be able to finish mounting the coax cables and get them all set and then I can mount the punch down blocks for all of the cat5 cables from up stairs and then also mount the telephone distribution block. At that point I need to figure out where I am going to put the last two punch down blocks for all of the basement wireing and then I will be ready to put up probably the most difficult sheet of drywall in the basement. I need to make sure I cut the hole for the breaker panel perfet and then also leave a hole for the coax and cat5 cables to go through and also access to an outlet right next to the breaker panel. Hopefully all my measuring will come out ok and the peice of drywall will go up without a problem. Then it is on to putting the rest of that wall up. Should be very easy to do. I may end up running two electrical outlets on that wall really quick just to give power to anyting on that side of the basement. I have an extension cord run to the dehumidifier right now and would like to have an outlet near it instead.

Cleaned up the electrical and network/phone/cable corner of the basement tonight
Took me about a hour and a half but I am almost ready to put up the corner peice of drywall now. Looks like I got lucky when they put in the 2x4s. They decided to put two studs exactly 48 inches apart. I was not sure if it would work out that way or not since the electrical box is in this corner. Hopefully tomorroow night I will be able to support the wall real quick with some small peices of 2x4s and then I can cut a few holes in the sheet of drywall and put up the full sheet. I need to cut a big hole out for the circuit panel, an electrical outlet and a few holes for the network cables, phone cables and coax for tv signals. I think I have the phone and coax all cleaned up and ready to mount. I still have to figure out where I am going to put most of the new cat5 I pulled to the basement. I am hopeing I can move most of them next to the phone cables. I will see tomorrow.

Built the last sofit last night
Last night after dinner I went down and worked on stuff in the basement for about 2 hours. I finally built and drywalled the last sofit in the main room. All drywall is up and ready to mud in the main room and bathroom and office. I have about 10 sheets of drywall left to put up in the utility room. I hope to get a few sheets up in the utility room tonight. I really need to build out a box around some pipes on one wall and need to organize all the coax and cat5 cables on another wall. When those two items are finished I should be able to get all drywall up and finished. I will be so happy when I can get rid of all the small pieces of drywall I have been keeping around to finish things up and also the big sheets. Hopefully I estimated correctly so I do not have much left over as far as full sheets.

Worked a few hours on the basement this weekend
Was able to finish up some more corners and butt joints with mud. I still have a bunch to do but the first coat is on for most of the room. I have two more corners to do and then the ceiling corner on one hole side. It is nice to have almost half the main room done. I finished putting up the rest of the drywall in the bathroom. Hopefully one evening this week I can get a first coat of mud on that room. I still have about 8 to 10 sheets of drywall to put up in the utility room. Maybe one night this week I will get back to that. I finished up one of the sofets in the main room last night. I have one left to build now. The one I put up last night turned out pretty good. Put up the drywall on it and called it quits for the evening. Man I was sore after working most of the afternoon and evening.

Strange thing happened after changing the oil in our car this weekend
I was out changing the oil in both the jeep and the cirrus this weekend. Jeep was done first and took it for a drive and everything seemed fine. The Cirrus was draining and I put everything back together when I got back from driving the jeep and filled it with oil. I heard a few bubbles or something pop or make a small noise as I was filling the car with oil. Never heard those noises before. So I put the car back down from the jack stands and then tried to start it. Turned over and almost started but nothing. So I tried it again and it almost sounded like the battery was dying. Let it sit a bit longer. Tried to start again and nothing still. I tried to start it for about 2 or 3 minutes and finally it kicked over. Started really hard and rough but it finally started and also calmed down and ran smooth finally. Took it out and drive it around the neighborhood and no problems. Brought it back home and parked it. Checked oil level and it was fine. Started again and it started with no problem. Tried this morning before I left and it started fine. I have no idea what the problem was but I thought for sure I would be getting it towed to the shop this morning.

Worked on a little mudding last night
Well I didn’t feel like doing much on the basement last night so I decided to finish of one of the 5 gallon buckets of mud I had sitting around. I started working on some of the corners in the main room. Here are a few pictures of the basement after I worked on a few corners. It is coming along nicely. I believe we have picked out the cast iron stove we want to put in. We need to go look at carpet and tile now. I plan to try to get a bunch of muding done this weekend. I hope I can put the last few sheets of drywall up in the bathroom and then get most of the bathroom muded this weekend. I am to the point that I just want to finish something. I think I will try to work on individual rooms now. The main room is very close to being ready to mud the whole thing up. The bathroom is pretty much ready for mud and the utility room is totally a mess. I really need to finish up hanging the drywall in the utility room so I can put that room back together. I just need to make a to do list and just go at it this weekend.

Think I found the free standing gas cast iron stove I want
I went to a local fireplace shop last night and looked at a few stoves. I was very impressed with a stove by lopi called the berkshire. It is the Berkshire New Iron stove. The fire in this thing looks like a real wood flame. I was amazed at the look of the flame and how nice the unit looked. A lot of heat coming off of it also. I think it will work out very nicely. Not sure when we will order it though. May wait for tax return and then go order at that point.

Not much completed last night
After dinner last night I went down and started moving stuff around in the utility room so I can get to some of the walls I will be drywalling. I have cleared off the wall that faces the bathroom and have put up one of the 2 full sheets that will go on that wall and also have prepared the rest of the wall for a few more half sheets. I need to fix a leaky shower head before I do anything else on that wall. I will try to get most of the wires cleaned up over by the electrical box. I would like to start down there and get all of the drywall up on the last wall in utility room. I didn’t get any mud up last night. Didn’t feel like do much last night. I will get back to it tonight probably. Try to get some of the stuff moved and organized so I can get a few more sheets up. I may start with mudding a few spots in the main room just to get moving on that again.

A few more sheets up and the ceiling is finished
Had a chance to work on the basement for about 2 hours yesterday evening. I finished up all of the ceiling in the main room. I have two small areas to build out a small sofet to cover up the heating pipes. Other than that, the big room is ready for mudding. I have drywall on all of the wall between the utility room and the main room. I still have to finish up around the doorway into and out of the utility room and also need to continue putting up drywall on the wall inside the bathroom and also the other side of that wall for the bathroom (part of the utility room). I need to move a few shelves and the freezer and a few other thing to finish up the last two walls in the utility room. I hope to go look at the gas stoves tonight and also get a few more sheets of drywall up on the walls in the utility room. I will probably put a few corner pieces up to try to get a jump on mudding also. Once again, slow but sure. Things are coming together.
