Not much new

Well not to much going on lately. Have been a bit under the weather. Just a cold I think. allergies have picked up again also though. So hope I get over this cold soon. Taylor goes to school tomorrow. We take her out to the place tomorrow evening and then pick her up on the 9th of may. Will be quite without her. Probably will miss her. Just bought her a new rawhide ring last night. The thing was huge. The reason I say was, is because she has almost finished half of it already. Probably was about 6 inches across and 2 inches think. Maybe a bit bigger. Man can she chew those things up. Starting the planning and layout of the sprinkler system this weekend. Will call miss dig after that and then go rent the trencher and pull the main lines in and get all of the smaller lines in also. Then it will be hooking up all the heads and letting the water flow. Probably won’t have the plumber out to hook the system up until much later. probably will put it all in and include the backflow preventor right now and then have the house water hook to that later. Will try to get away with hooking a hose to the system for now, until more money starts growing on our money tree. Just hasn’t started as of yet.

Thunderstorm this morning

Well, this morning while watching the news I saw some flashing way off in the distance. About 10 mins later it started to rain and lighting at my house. Man was I glad. Thought I was going to have to start watering the lawn. I have not had a chance to start on the underground sprinkler system as of yet. So that means moving the sprinkler all over the yard again. So not I do not have to do that for a bit. Nice to have the seed and fertilazer I just put down get watered in naturally.

Day of vaction which made for a long great weekend

Well, friday turned out to be a perfect day to take vacation. Got up and cleaned up the basement mess from the water softner problem the day before. Also cleaned up the rest of the utility room and organized the work bench area and also a set of shelves that really needed some help. Then went out and bought some stain for the deck and stained/sealed the deck finally. That took most of the afternoon but was well worth it. Looks pretty good, have two places we missed but rest of the deck looks great. Probably will look much better after the summer when it fades a bit. Woke up early sat. and got out the tools and started cuting and diging getting read to put some lattice work around the bottom of our deck so taylor doesn’t dig or lay in the dirt down there anymore. So everything was all in place and ready to nail about 10am, got the air compressor out and staple gun and in about 5 mins had the whole things hooked up and looking great. Put the weather station back up, ended up mounting the temp gauge and water gauge on the deck instead of way up in the air and then put the wind gauge back up on the pole. Eventually I want to try to mount the wind gauge on the roof somewhere so it is out of site, well not out of site but a bit more hidden or ugly. I must admit not the best looking setup at this point and time. Was able to hide the temp gauge under the deck though. Can’t really hide rain gauge since it needs to collect rain. The solar cells also can’t be hidden to much either. Grass is growing pretty good. Coming in a bit thicker this year. Put down some more seed and will fertlize middle to late this month and probably will cut the grass on the highest lawnmower setting this week sometime. Some patches of grass are getting pretty tall. Sunday was able to was the car and clean the inside of both the jeep and the car with jenny’s help. Helped a friend cut a tree down and patch his roof on sat. That was interesting to say the least. Over all a pretty good long weekend. Could use a few more of those for sure

Big problem in basement this morning

Well the morning started out with me waking up just a bit late, not to late. Got up and went down to feed taylor and let her out. Taylor is our 7 month old dog. When I turned the light on down stairs I was very suprised to find about a half an inch of water in the utiltiy room. So got the shop vac out and started sucking all the water up. Filled up the 16 gallon container up once and then about half again. Man is that thing heavy to lift when it is full. So ended up making it to work on time. Early actually. Well my wife called while I was at work and said she filled about half of the shop vac once again. So something has to be leaking I am thinking. Couldn’t find the leak earlier though. So take off from work about 10am and get home. Floor is pretty much all dry now, since she went over the floor again. Well come to find out. We painted the previous weekend and I forgot to put the watersoftener discharge tube back in the utility sink. I had move it up and out of the way while cleaning the painting stuff up. So my fault and everything is drying now. Should be pretty much dry when I get home. Now to clean up just a few spots from salt buildup on the floor and then organize that room so in the future I don’t have to worry about water damage. Not to may things got wet, most stuff was either not touched or up and out of the way of any water. So got lucky this time.

Another good weekend

Well this weekend was very relaxing. Taylor it taking to the backyard nicely. She was out quite a bit this weekend. Eating grass and everything else she can find. Found one of the sticks of fertilizer that I buried for the pine trees. Good to see she didn’t eat it. Might have chewed on it a bit though. Could not really tell.

Jenny and I decided to redo our guest bedroom. So the walls are blue now and we have a new quilt for the bed. Probably later this week I will put all the plates back on the wall and finish up on the rest. We want to put one more coat of white paint around the window and then have some artist brushes to clean up a few miscast around the edges on the walls. Bought some new curtains and curtain rod for the window also. Will put that up tonight since jenny is on call again.

Other than that. Woke up today to about 2 inches of snow piled up against the garage. Was a bit suprised. Just put down triazonone yesterday to try to get rid of the grubs. Still have to spray the backyard. Just got the front and side yard right now. Put another bag of grass seed down. Hopefully the yard will take off this summer. Looking much better than last year already.

Beautiful last few days

Well we have had a few days that have been great. I think that is over with now though. Getting colder out and is suppose to rain today. Maybe even have a thunderstorm. That is good though. Just got the second bag of grass seed down on the lawn last night. Wish I could have put some triazonone down though. Need to get that stuff down to try to get rid of my mole/grub problem. Want to try it on the front yard and then if all goes well I will put in the backyard also. Noticed a few mole holes and found at least one grub. So figured I would try to get a jump on a big problem before it happens. Still have to get the underground sprinkler system going. Have most of the parts, just have to find the time to start putting it in.

well I think we found a trainer for taylor

Will give them a call this week. Have heard great things about this trainer/dog school. Have also heard conflicting stories. Would be nice if he comes to our house to teach us but would be willing to go to galesburg to learn also. Just want to find out what he has to offer and get things going so taylor is a great obedience dog.

Great weekend, to bad it is over

Well over the weekend I worked on the basement a bit. Have the big room fully insullated, well the walls at least. I have to go get about 4 more rolls of insullation so I can finish up the bathroom. I have two rolls of insullation for the ceiling but have not put those up yet. Want to put those up just to make sure that is the insullation I want to use, then I will go back and get 4 more rolls for the walls and probably get 5 to 10 for the ceiling and see how far that gets me. Man does that stuff stink up the house for a day. Think the smell is almost gone now.

Went out and bought two hallogen lights for the backyard. Went up into the attack for the first time yesterday and started to get a feel for how I am going to run the wires to the lights in back. Planning to put a door in the back of the garage so we can let taylor in and out that way. There is an outlet right there where the door is going to be so I am planning on using that and making a light switch/outlet combo box out of it. Then I have power and switch for the two outside lights I want to put up. So have to start looking for the door and as soon as I put that door in I can put the lights up and get a bit more light in the backyard.

Found a nice cedar doghouse for taylor. That is going to set us back about 160. Probably will go get it in another month or so. Hope she likes that. Se really seems to like the backyard. Gives her the freedom she has been needing. Got a fresbee for her over the weekend. Have not worked on getting her to catch it yet but she is great at playing fetch with it. Hopefully later this summer we will get her catching it.

Backyard is now fenced in

Came home last night and they had come and installed the fence yesterday. Looks like it is mostly completed. A few things that I hope they are going to come back and fix and finish but mostly intact. Enough for taylor at least. They did have to cut my neighbors tree back. But he seems to be ok with it. The neighbor mentioned that he talked to the neighbor accross the street and that guy said that the plat was not allowed to have chainlink fences I guess. Well I had asked the builder and called the city to check and nothing from either of them awhile ago. Walked around the two streets in the plat last night and saw 2 houses with chain link fences in the backyard and then this morning I drove through the neighborhood on my way to work and found 3 yards with chain link fences and one that had a wood fence on the front edges and chain link on the other sides. So I have no idea what that one neighbor is talking about. I am not worried. I will let someone complain or knock at the door or something before I even think much less worry about it again. Then there will be 4 other people in the neighborhood that will have to worry also. Anyways, taylor loves it back there. Sometimes it is hard to get her to come in. She just seems to be sniffing all over and running back and forth. Now to get some lights up back there so we can see her back there at night and then I am going to put a piece of wood down at the gates so she can’t dig under them if she wanted to. Just a small burried piece of wood you can get them at any home store, think it is called landscaping lumber. Kind of a 4×4 post but curved on 2 sides. Then I will use the leftovers to put a small wood block down right over my corner markers for my plot of land.

Taylor came through

Well last night at 4:45 I took taylor in to get her stiches out. Was a pretty good trip. She didn’t mind riding in the car to much. Had her head part of the way out the window trying to figure things out. Got her stiches out with no problems and we headed home. Got home just in time to meet the fence guy. Put all the stakes in where the fence will go and found the markers for our lot so I now know where the lot markers are and what not. Think I will go out and buy some small patio stones and put those right over the markers for my 4 corners, then I can find the corners anytime I need to find them and can get rid of the ugly stakes that they left from construction. Fence should start going in tomorrow sometime. So by this weekend we will be able to just let taylor go out into the backyard. Now I have to find 2 yard lights to light up the backyard for us. That should be fun to put in.
