Last night I went down and worked on outlets and the bathroom light for about 30 to 45 minutes. Have a few outlets all hooked up and looking good. Have a few more to finish up. I started on the bathroom light. Tonight I should have that all set and ready to use. It is notiably off center. A little dissappointed about that. I guess I should have tried a bit more to see if I could make it centered. Don’t really know if I can or could have done anything though. There is a load bearing wall that is it on and a stud right where it needed to go. On the other side of the stud there is a vent pipe going up the wall. I really could not restructure that much at all. The light only needed to be moved over like 2 inches probably. Oh well. Will get that going tonight and hopefully finish up on a few more outlets. I have a few outlets I will need to work on a bit with some more mud and then paint around again. Just to make them nice and smooth around the cover plate. I will then move on to hooking up all of the speaker jacks and network jacks. That will take a few more nights. Then I can clean up all of the cables and patch panels in the utility room. I will plan on just plugging away at everything I can right now. Then at the beginning of next month I will go spend the 200 bucks or so on trim and baseboard and get everything trimmed out and ready for carpet. At that point I will just have the bathroom to finish up (closet/cabinet in back corner, toilet and put up towel bar and what not). I think I will start making the projector screen and get that all ready for when I buy the new projector.
New pictures up of the basement and walls are painted
Well friday night I was able to get most of the areas all touched up and ready for paint. Saturday morning I sanded any areas that were touched up just to make sure everything was nice and smooth. I then setup everything to get painting. I still have about a gallon of paint left in the first 5 gallon bucket of paint. I finished painting the whole main room about noon. Cleaned everything up and headed up to take a shower. That main room looks really nice now. I am letting dry and cure a few more days before I start putting all of the outlet covers on and speaker jacks and what not. I did notice a few spots I should touch up a bit with some mud and then paint again really quick. I saw a few corners that need to be touched up also. Over all thought it looks pretty good. Here are the updated pictures.
Started taking measurements and figured I will need about 1200 feet of base molding and 1000 feet of trim for the doors and windows. If I get the contractor packs of trim and base molding it will run me about 150 or so to get everything trimmed out in the main room, office, bathroom, bottom of stairs and around the door in the utliliy room.
This week I plan to get the door all setup and ready for trim. I will get the windows all trimmed out and looking good and probably work on getting the cabinet and sink in place and finished. I did push it into place yesterday after I cut a little out of the back of the cabinet since it would hit some of the waste pipe if I did not. Looks pretty good. I have the light fixture out and ready to install also. Due to a 2×4 on a load bearing wall I had to put the fixture just off center. Hopefully it is not to noticable.
It is time to get plans together and estimates for carpet now. Will start getting a plan together for the gas burning stove also.

Ceiling in main room has been finished
Last night I went down to the basement, right after I got home, and started setting stuff up so I could paint the ceiling. Went up and relaxed for a bit and let taylor out, then headed down to get going on the ceiling. Went a bit faster than I thought it would. I had 2 cans of paint on the ceiling in no time. I ended up with a full gallon and a half of paint left over. Guess I over estimated. Good thing I have extra, now I can touch up or redo the ceiling in any of the rooms if I need to. I will take a marker down tonight so I can start to label the cans of paint so I know what paint was use where.
This morning I went down just before taking off for work and put up the lights. All 8 are installed and are working. I have 2 that I want to adjust a bit but they are working and look great. I plan to touch up the walls tonight and if that all goes good and drys fast I may be able to start paint some of the walls. By the end of the weekend I plan to have the walls painted in the main room and have all large items put in the utility room and the sink and counter put into the bathroom.
I have a friend coming up so I plan to take advantage of him being there so I can move all the big items like the table saw and futons and stuff into the utility room. It will be packed in there for a bit but I need to do that so I can be ready for the carpet. I will probably in the next few weeks go pick up all the trim I need for around the doors and windows and the baseboard also. That will be a bit of an expense but at least it will make the room look alot nicer.
Getting close. I can’t wait to get the paint on the walls. The room will look much better at that point.

Still plugging away at the basement
After not working on the basement, or anything for that matter, on tuesday. I think I made up for it last night. I came home and had some dinner and messed around with taylor in the backyard for a bit. Spent about 5 to 10 minutes trying to hover with the blade cp in the garage and then changed and went out to mow. That took until dusk which is about 7pm now. After that I grabed some water to drink and headed down to the basement. I had planned on sanding and cleaning up a bit. Well after I got into it I just kept going and ended up getting all of the walls and beams ready for touchup. I pretty much went over every inch of the walls and beams with a sanding block.
Tonight I hope to paint the ceiling. After that is finished I will go around with a utility light and find all of the areas that need a little touch up with mud or what not and try to get everything touched up. Then on friday night and saturday morning I can make sure to sand anything that needs to be sanded after touching up and then start with the final coat of paint. Depending on how much paint it left I may put a second coat of paint on. It all depends on how the first coat takes and how it looks. The office only needed one coat. I did go back and touch up a few spots and think there is one more I need to touch up. For the most part, since I primed, it only needed one coat. Hopefully I will have enough paint to do the main room and also the garage. I do not know if I will get around to the garage this fall or wait until spring. I also need to paint the front door and also the service door on the garage also. I do not know if I will keep the same color or not. Still deciding.

On track for this week
Last night I want down stairs about 6:30 and started to get things all setup to spray the ceiling. I finished spraying around 8 or 8:30 and started cleaning up. Man am I tired. I have a bit of sanding to do to clean up the walls from over spray but the ceiling is ready for paint. I will proabably go down tonight and start sanding the walls and begin touching up any areas I feel need to be touched up. Hopefully tomorrow night the ceiling will be totally dry and I can start painting the ceiling. If all goes as planned I will have the ceiling finished tommorrow evening. I will be able to put the lights back in and take all the plastic down on thursday evening.
I am very sore and tired today. Talk about a sholder workout. The sprayer is not heavy at all but when you load it with thinned mud, wow it gets heavy very quickly. When you are spraying a large area you can pretty much load it all the way full and you will empty it in less than 5 minutes. When I looked at the ceiling this morning it was looking really good. Not quite dry but it should be mostly dry by this evening.

Getting ready for the winter
Saturday I was outside getting things in the yard ready for the winter. I hooked up the air compressor to the sprinkler system and blew out all 9 zones. The sprinkler system is turned off for the season and ready for the winter. I drained the pipe all the way back to the release valve in the house. I also got the snow thrower out and started it up for the first time this season. Ran it for a few minutes and then let it cool down. A little later I started it again just to make sure everything is ready on it. Started up on the first pull. Put it back into it’s storage spot and it is ready. I need to move a few things around in the garage so it can be put back next to the jeep for the winter season. I want to find a place for the new yard card and also the lawn mower for the winter months. Thinking after I winterize the lawn mower for the season I will try to put it up on the shelving unit I built. I will also find a place to hang the yard cart. I am hoping I can hang it over the corner of the garage that we keep all of the lawn tools. When that has been hung I can pull the snow blower out for the season. I need to drain the two hoses and bring those in for the season soon.
It is nice that there is no more lawn work. It makes it very easy to work on the basement more. I still need to mow the yard about once a week but that will slow down very soon.
By the end of November I hope to be using the basement. I hope that area will be nice and cozy when it is all done. I insulated all of the walls and put 3 vents in that area but I am not sure that will be enough. I have access to one wall so I can put another vent in the bathroom if I need to. I can also put another vent or two in the main room if I needed to. My big concern now is to make sure the return air vent will be enough. I have one vent cut and ready to use but I need to decide how I want to hook it into the return ductwork. Or do I not want to hook it into the ductwork? just let it vent into the utility room.
That area will be very cozy once we put the gas burning cast iron stove down there. I hope I have covered all items that need to be thought of. I would hate for them to come out and tell me that it can’t go where I want it to go. That would suck and make me a bit mad for sure.

Main room is ready to spray texture on the ceiling
Last night during comercials I went down to get the room ready to spray. I have plastic over the two windows in the room. I put plastic over the french doors and the door going to the bathroom. I also taped up plastic over the door way to the office and over the vent hole I cut in the wall into the utility room. This should make cleanup go a bit faster when I spray. I will still have some major cleanup to do in this room but hopefully with those up and I also plan to put some paper around the whole room right at the top of the wall so I do not have to mess with the top few inches either. I will still need to scrape the walls down and sand any high spots along with any touch up I need to do on the walls. I will also need to scrape the floors and vacuum everything up after it is all done. I plan to take a hose and water down the floors and scrub them before the carpet is down. I want to clean them up as much as possible and then use the shop vac to vacuum up any debri left over.
Needless to say I will be busy tonight getting the ceiling looking good and then cleaning up after I have sprayed. Cleaning the room up and also myself. I am normally pretty covered at the end of this also.

A little bit behind my schedule for the basment
I took 3 days off at the end of the week this week. Off of working on the basement every night that is. Well saturday I ended up working on stuff outside and a few other thing so I did not get to what I wanted to work on either.
Today I finally got back to the basement and got partially caught up. I cleaned up the utility room part of the way and move everything out of the main room so I could start cleaning it up and get it ready for primer. I sanded all the corners and everything looked pretty good. I got all of my paint tools together and finished priming the ceiling. I decided I would go ahead and use up the rest of the primer. I started on the two smaller walls. I the kept on going and primed the center beam and pillar. Still had plenty of paint so I started on one of the large walls and finished it so I went ahead and painted the last wall. Still had some left so finished up all of the corners and any touch up. Still have a little primer left in the bucket. I thought for sure I would need to go pick up at least one more gallon of primer to finish the basement. Well luckily that is the last of the walls that will need priming. That stuff is so strong.
Tomorrow I hope to get all of the tools together so I can spray the ceiling. I have taped off one of the doors and two of the windows. I want to tape and put plastic up over the last two doorways and I will be ready to spray the ceiling. Hopefully I can get all of it sprayed and get most of the overspray off the walls and what not. If that all goes smoothly I plan to paint the ceiling on tuesday or wednesday. I have a few areas I need to work with on the walls and main beam and then I will be ready to paint the walls also. Hopefully by next weekend I will have at least part of the walls painted. By the end of the weekend I would like to have the ceiling and walls painted. It will be nice to look at a painted room. I need to start thinking about what trim I want to use and get measurements so I can start putting some numbers together to figure out how much it will cost for all of the baseboard trim and what not. I can start working on getting the bathroom ready for flooring also.
Sometime I need to start putting things into the utility room so the carpet can be put down in all rooms at the same time. I would think that the installed would be able to capet the office, main room, bottom of the stairs and stairway all at the same time. I think that another person would be doing the bathroom floor. I figure I can and should start putting up trim around the windows and doors soon. I need to talk to the installer also and see if he wants the baseboard down before the carpet or after.
So it is coming together nicely. I will get some pictures up soon.

Not a good night
Last night I did nothing on my list for the basement. I worked on the leak in the attic and played around with the new rc heli and relaxed. I have to get back at it tonight. I am behind but I should be able to get caught up pretty easy.
The spot on the bedroom ceiling we noticed ended up being a pretty bad leak. It will take a bit to clean up, but the leak has been fixed. It was a bad joint on a pvc pipe that vents that area of the house. Mostly just the new bathroom downstairs, utility sink in the utility room and guest bathroom. For some reason the connection was never glued correctly or never glued. I moved all of the insulation away from the area to discover a large wet area. Will have to let that area dry for a few days and then kill any mold that is left behind. I have fixed the joint. Just needed to dry it off, clean it up and then use some pvc joint sealer. Seems to be fixed. I will climb back up in the attic in a few days to make sure it is dry and then spray with bleach to kill any mold. I should be able to prime the spot in the bedroom and then touch up with the ceiling paint and that should be all better. Just waiting for it to dry right now.

Got the blade cp helicopter yesterday
Just as we were leaving to head to the hospital yesterday I noticed out mail main coming down the street. So I turned around and waited till he got to our house. Sure enough there was a bunch of mail for us since there was not mail delievery on monday and he had a box I had to sign for. Took everything inside and opened up the box. It was my lightly used blade cp remote controlled helicopter I won about 2 weeks ago. Since we were leaving I did not get to mess with it.
When we got home last night I did not have time to mess with it either. I headed right out to mow the yard and then came in to eat after that. Finally I have so time to mess with it. At first I could not get it to initialize. After reading the instructions a few times I figured out I had to have the throttle stick and trim all the way down. I was only putting the throttle all the way down. Next I found that the previouse owner had crashed a few times. I powered it up and started the main blade and it had a horrible wobble to it. I decided to change blades (he had included an extra set). come to find out he had crashed it a few times it looked like bacause there was almost an inch of blade cut off the ones that were on it. So I put the new ones on it and started it up. Finally it worked. After a little tweaking I was able to hoover about 2 mm off the carpet. Seriously this thing is hard to control. I am still tweaking the trim and gyro adjustments a bit. I have two more blades but do not want to use those until I can control this thing a bit better. Well after a little longer I had it moveing around a bit, and all of a sudden it headed towards the coffee table. I could not get it to come back and bam it hit. Took a notch out of the end of one blade so I will have to trim this blade down about a 1/4 of an inch to even it out so it will not be out of balance. I will do that tonight. I am looking for good prices on crash kits and new blades because I am sure i will be needing them.
Hopefully I will have a bit more time with it tonight. Will take it out into the garage tonight so I will not have to worry about hitting furniture.
